South Dakota Emergency Management Conference

With summer in full swing, the annual SDEMA Conference will soon be upon us! This year's conference will be held in Chamberlain/Oacoma. Below are useful links for those of you looking to be in attendance this year. A couple reminders to think about before registering:

  • There is training being offered at the beginning of the conference (A link is listed in the form to sign up for the training).
  • Signing up for the training does NOT register you for the conference.
  • Payment for the conference would be greatly appreciated when you register, as it makes things run a little more smoothly when conference time comes.
  • Banquet tickets are extra

This year’s conference is shaping up to be a great time. We hope to see everyone there!

Questions? Please contact Leland Treichel via phone (605-287-4394) or email (sodakema@yahoo.com)

Northern Hills Emergency Preparedness Fair

Lawrence County hosted the Northern Hills Emergency Preparedness Fair Saturday, June 1st from 10am to 2pm (MT) in Spearfish. The fair featured emergency planning, preparation, and response for families, businesses, and the general public. The event also featured emergency response equipment, emergency information, demonstrations, and displays such as: emergency kits, generators, survival gear, child fingerprinting, bicycle safety, and information to help people in time of need or just to live more safely.

The Lawrence County Emergency Management and Spearfish Police Department coordinated the event. Wal-Mart provided the venue, increasing the turn out. This event was free to public and The Salvation Army was present serving sloppy joes, soda pop, and chips for a price of FREE as well!

The event was host to two of our Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster including The American Red Cross and The Salvation Army.

The goal of the Northern Hills Emergency Preparedness Fair was to provide education and information in a relaxed family-friendly setting to make a difference and help the public prepare for a crisis situation or emergency.
